So this trip, I went with the intention of seeking out some of the traditional Iberian antique jewelry from Spain that is so special and popular now (not to mention difficult to find in the US).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love the style of these earrings, a crowned openwork flourish atop the domed circular parts, both set with natural emeralds. These are in the style of, but not as old as the larger dangling 1700s and early 1800s pieces (I have some of those listed and still coming too) so the fabrication of these is a bit different, but they are still antique. And I liked the option of having the smaller stud style that can be dressed up or down. The knowledgeable jeweler who I purchased them, who specializes in this type of regional jewelry thought they were from the late 1800s to early 1900s intending to recall the older 18th century style. So you get the old look but without the price of the rarer 18th century pieces. And you get the smaller stud form without the larger scale of the traditional pendeloque danglers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe gold work in the scrolled crowns and around the circular details is hand chiseled.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRather than cut down collets, the stones were set with some sort of natural resin in to the closed back setting (which also assumedly fills the domed part for stability, which was the traditional fabrication, even in the older pieces). This is the original fabrication as the stones have no prongs so it how they have always been held and is only visible under very strong magnification. They would have originally had a hinged ear wire that fastened into the bottom of the earrings similar to a French dormeuse, but in this case, the backs were replaced with a more current ear post and a hinged clip that secures the earring by clipping to the back of the ear. They are super sturdy and springy and ready to wear for another 100 years. So the fronts are original \/ antique, and the ear posts and clips are later.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love that they wear like studs and that the backs or so springy and sturdy making them ready for wear. They look beautiful on!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey are crafted in 18k gold, all parts, and the hinged back is stamped with the more recent hallmarks, this case 750 which is the numerical hallmark used in Europe for 18k gold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAntique Box IS Included! These old boxes are collectible and hold value. The box is not fitted for the earrings and is not original to the pieces (I think it was a cufflink or button box), but I am including it as a gift because it's always fun to store our antique goodies in period appropriate housing : ). \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSIZE \u0026amp; MEASUREMENTS:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e22x15mm by 9.3mm deep measuring just the dome without the backs.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pair weighs 8.8 grams combined. This is not all gold weight since the domes are filled.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:\u003cbr\u003e\nAs mentioned the hinged backs are later than the fronts and are super sturdy, you can see some gold solder where they were added later. The emeralds have some slightly varying hues and natural frosty inclusions, typical for these stones and serves as proof that they are natural. One stone has loss to the surface leaving it uneven and unpolished but the coloring and shape of the stone still fills the space and retains the square. A few other nicks and nibbles but nothing glaring. The natural resin has a slight warmth seen under magnification but with normal wear they appear quite tidy. Interesting and beautiful to wear with the green color contrasting with the glowing chiseled 18k gold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and \/ or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )\u003cbr\u003e\nBut - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
