ABOUT:
This is a unique one looking at the way the stones are cut. This is a Georgian era ring with six diamonds set in a foiled and closed back setting.
Very primitive cuts to the six diamonds that are almost like a mix between a rose cut and an old mine cut. They have a smaller number of facets like a rose cut along with the irregular shapes and sizes, but they have flat tables with long triangular cuts like we see in some old mine cuts. I can't see the undersides of the stones but they appear to have flat backs?
Perhaps a combination of cuts as diamond cutters at the time used their personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each diamond. It is always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds! They have elongated rectangular and oval shapes.
Moody sparkle with warm to gray hues from age to the foil back. Cut little "ring butt" as we say in the trade with domed circles behind each stone. Fun to stack as it has a very organic antique look.
Found in France , no hallmarks but tests at 18k.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

The diamonds are 3 to 4mm each in a cushioned oval shape. Exact carats weight is unknown as I would not remove them from the setting.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamonds are warm to gray from age to the foil. They look positively ancient with some frosty edges made before machine cutting and polishing. The ring is stable and ready for wear but looks its age with the discolored foil backs. Sold as is, if it doesn't sell well I'll harvest the amazing stones and repurpose them but I typical try to sell as is before altering antiques in any way.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
