Buttercup CHUNKY .4 Carat Old Mine Cut Diamond c1908 Edwardian Antique Ring 18k Gold Suspended Belcher Set
ABOUT:
The glow on this one is so buttery delicious with the rich antique patina of the 18k gold. To me it reads as higher carat gold because of the rich and still warm yellow coloring. The other fun part is the chunky .4 carat old mine cut diamond which is suspended in the belcher setting. Interesting to view from the side to see how the chunky diamond with its high crown floats in the setting so that you can view the stone at all angles when at eye level. A wonderful antique sparkle set in sturdy and sleek gold work with beveled, softly smoothed knife edge shank. There are teardrop designs on each shoulder for an added design element. Beautiful alone but also stackable.
I purchased this piece in France so it has the French hallmark for 18k gold but was fabricated in the UK and is fully hallmarked inside for Birmingham, 18k gold, date 1908.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a snug size 6. Weighs 3.3g, the diamond measures 4.5 x 4mm with a nice depth and high crown measuring a little over .4 carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamond moves slightly, but is secure in hooked prongs that have enough length to hold each side securely. There is a worn prong here or there but enough remain to hold the stone securely on all sides. This is just something to keep an eye on over time. The diamond has a warm silk inclusion, slightly eye visible, and a slight warmth to the color, but does not appear dingy or yellow. No damage at all to the stone and it has a nice chunky cut.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) y.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop!
