ABOUT: I purchased this awhile back as a pin / brooch but it did not sell as sadly, these pins aren't as frequently worn any more. So although I shy away from altering antiques, I converted it to pendant in hopes of making it more wearable and appealing to the masses.
It's quite heavy, It has a rad figural design of a talon / claw holding an opal in vibrant cobalt blue with soft iridescent blue opal. It comes in its original box which was fitted for the pin but I will still include it. It's made by Garrard & Co., jeweler to Queen Victoria, and same maker as the famous Princess Diana sapphire and diamond engagement ring now worn by Princess of Wales Kate Middleton.
Very sturdy piece with excellent quality. The loop at the top swivels around allowing it to spin to view the 3D figural piece from all sides. Tests at 14k and the added loops are also 14k.
MEASUREMENTS:
The opal is about 7mm. The claw portion is 24x12mm. It weighs 4.6 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. A bit of crazing to the enamel and to the opal and a few nicks to both as well but still very legible and appearing mostly complete to the eye. Beautiful coloring and antique patina. The box is warped but it is still possible to squeeze it shut and get it hooked. Please note that due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
