FLORAL Antique GEORGIAN Era Daisy Ring on Chunky Vintage 18k Band Rose & Old Mine Cut DIAMOND
FLORAL Antique GEORGIAN Era Daisy Ring on Chunky Vintage 18k Band Rose & Old Mine Cut DIAMOND
ABOUT:
One of a Kind Alert! This appears to be a ring of married components. We have a sturdy almost donut band (or D shank) in 18k gold and draped across the top is a floral design with rose cut and old mine cut diamonds set in silver. The floral piece appears to be a component from something else, with fabrication indicative of the Georgian era.
I got this piece in Sweden. The hallmarks are interrupted but the shank / band is still an older piece as well - there appears to be an "R8" date mark, which would indicate the year 1943. There are additional stamps inside but I do not recognize them. It was sold to me as 18k gold and tested to confirm. The applied diamond design would date to the 1800s. At the center of the flower is the old mine cut diamond which is prong set. The petals and leaves are set with 14 rose cut diamonds in closed foil backed settings.
Quite a sturdy piece and makes a very unique stacker - I love the way the petals curve slightly and the leaf shoulders drape across the top. The shank is nice and thick. It loos like they flattened it out some at the top to serve as a better surface to hold the silver applied design. It gives the piece a wonderful 3D look. So pretty!
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 3/4 and it weighs a sturdy 6.1 grams. The silver floral component is 8.8mm north south by 20mm east west. The old mine cut is about 3.5mm (around .2 carat as it is a chunky cut, this is just an estimation as I would not remove it. The rose cuts are smaller, 1.5 to 2.5mm each, but it should be over half a carat total weight in diamonds with all the stones. (Again I would not remove them to get an exact measurement).
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds, many of the rose cuts are warm in color from age to the foil back. They have nicks, natural inclusions and frosty edges. This is what we typically see on pieces of this age. The old mine cut has no dark or eye visible inclusions but half of its prongs are worn so that is something you'd want to keep an eye on over time or have reinforced but this one needs gentle wear anyway with the closed back setting - you should avoid getting it wet.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
