FRENCH Antique 18k GOLD Old Single Rose Cut DIAMOND Dangle Dormeuse EARRINGS

ABOUT:

Beautiful French antique dainty dangle earrings, each holding an old single cut diamond in prongs with an additional little rose cut above for another glint of sparkle. The bottom larger prong set diamonds dangle separately from a loop to allow them to catch the light for more sparkle.

Belle Epoque era pair of earrings that I acquired in France. So romantic with the buttery antique gold and the old cut diamonds. But with a still relevant linear look. These are always so popular. But Please note the measurements.

Many of my French dormeuse are inserted from the back of the ear but these are even sturdier and less finicky in that they have a spring loaded hinged back with a little catch at the top, so they are inserted from the front of the ear, the backs then spring closed and they latch securely.

These earrings are called "dormeuse" in French which translates to "sleeper", meant to be dainty and small, comfortable enough to sleep in, used in olden times to keep the ear holes open overnight : ) Of course these days we don't recommend all night 24/7 wear on these antique pieces with intricate 100 year old gold hinges. Having said that these are quite sturdy. Again - please note the measurements. I always include them in each listing but people tend to miss them - I have to show zoom photos for detail which can make it hard to determine scale. These are intentionally dainty and small, it is how they were made, for adults, intending to be dainty.

French hallmarks for 18k gold on the ear wires. Antique box not included. Once more - Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers draw them out to get an idea of scale.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They measure about 16mm top to bottom, the larger diamonds are about 2.5mm each in a larger illusion setting and the smaller are each about 1.5-2mm. The pair weighs 2.5g combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds with natural inclusions and some frosty spots. The tiny rose cuts are rough cut with rough edges. They are small so they just add a glint of sparkle.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
