These are crafted in 18k white gold with antique old mine cut diamonds measuring a little over one carat each / two carats for the pair. Likely from the Art Deco period, the stones we know are older but the settings are a bit later, still definitely vintage.

These are a rendition of the dormeuse design but with normal ear wires instead of the back to front design with the hooked end. So these are quite easy to wear and put on. With sturdy lever backs, the curved posts hook into the catch at the back. The lever is the only moving part, the ear wires and diamond settings are fixed so while they dangle from the ear, there are no loops or moving parts in the settings themselves which makes them quite sturdy. With prongs in excellent shape so these are ready for regular wear (although I still tend to discourage lying down on hinged back earrings as a general rule).

I love the clean look of the setting. There is a halo of white gold at the base of the prong setting which serves as an illusion setting to make the stones look even a bit larger than their already nice size.

Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold on the ear posts and lever back, and there is a worn 750 stamp on the lever back which is the numerical hallmark used in Europe for 18k gold.

Comes as pictured in an antique box from my personal collection. It's a Victorian pin box so it is not original to the earrings, but beautiful color inside and the diamonds nest nicely there for display.

Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

The diamonds are about 6.4mm and about one carat each for a total of two carats for the pair. I would not remove them for exact measurements and the setting does not allow me to get an exact depth measurement so this is an estimate.

16.5mm top to bottom, the bottom stone settings are 7.8mm wide by 5.5mm deep not including the lever backs.
The pair weighs 3.7 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The lever backs have tension and tightness and the ear wires connect securely in them.

The old mine cuts are typical in that they have some natural inclusions. Nothing glaring but some crystal flecks and some tiny smatterings of carbon, one more than the other. There are not the large inky spot type of inclusions but more the tiny specks so there is nothing glaring but can be seen if you are seeking them out. But they can read a bit frosty overall from these things reflecting around. I would have priced them higher if they were higher clarity. Even though the four c's doesn't apply well to old cut stones, they're estimated around an SI. Feel free to request more videos.

Not a lot of detectable warmth. Some nibbles and rough spots to the girdles, especially to one stone that again can reflect around a bit but they both fill the settings and appear complete and round so there are no large chips or any cracks and again would be seen more in studying them than while wearing.

All things pretty typical for antique stones. You should be able to seek these things out in the 20x zoom of the already zoomed photos, which of course accentuates it much more than anything seen while wearing.

One stone can rotate in the four prongs setting but is in zero danger of ever coming free in the next 100 years because the prongs are chunky and sturdy. This could probably be tightened if desired but is not noticeable while wearing and is really just the result of putting old cushion shaped old mine cuts in round settings. They are sturdy and ready for regular wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

SOCIAL:
Please feel free watch @mouseshouseantiques on Instagram for inventory drops, sneak peaks and previews!
