Feel free to follow along on Instagram @MousesHouseAntiques!

ABOUT:

These striking figural earrings are so impactful in their size and shape! They have a great antique look with the spready rose cuts providing a large surface area to catch the light. I loved these Georgian era pieces when I saw them in the case, but was even more blown away when I held one up to my ear! With the size and shape they just look fabulous on! They'd be awesome to wear in the evenings to dinner or to an event, where the rose cuts show to their best advantage, having been cut during a time when they would be most often viewed by the fireside or by candlelight. But with the whimsical shape, they are also appropriate to be dressed down.

Crafted in 18k gold with the leaf settings topped in silver, they have a wonderful patina with the contrasting darkness of the silver from age of nearly 200 years. Each earring is set with 6 spready rose cut natural diamonds. Even the backs are lined and engraved with leaf like detailing.

Sturdy pushbacks make them ready to wear! But Not intended for 24/7 wear - these shouldn't get wet with the diamonds in closed back settings (nor do I recommend really ever lying on any 100+ year old earrings overnight, and these are closer to 200 years old).

Found in Spain, no hallmarks which I found to be common there, but the backs of the leaves, the posts and the push backs test at 18k gold and they are topped in silver. There is a spot on the back of each that may be a hallmark but I can't decipher it so it may just be a fabrication mark.

Any props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They are 18mm across / (or 3/4 inch).

The four largest stones are each earring are 3-4mm each with the smaller end stones about 2.2mm. Carat weight is unknown as their depths cannot be measured and removing them would destroy the earrings. To get an idea of scale though, they face up at about .8 carat in diamonds for each earrings, if compared to how a modern brilliant would face up. So 1.6 carat total in appearance but with no pavilions to the stones, the actual carat weight is much less.

The pair weighs a sturdy 8.6 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Very old so the rose cuts are the rough, primitive cuts. Varying shapes, minimal faceting, frosty and rough edges, natural inclusions. They often look this way from the period. They have discoloration to the closed backs, warmth and cloudy spots so they definitely have that moody antique look, but the surfaces catch the light beautifully. One earring has some carbon flecks to the center stone and two stones that have a nibbled edge and are out of round but again they are all already quite freeform in their cuts. Some nicks and nibbled girdle edges as well. These need gentler wear as there is wear to the silver collets exposing some of the girdle edges of the stone but earrings are by nature worn gently, so we just don't recommend for 24/7. There is little to no margin on these but I just loved them and couldn't leave them behind. : )

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

SOCIAL:
Please feel free watch @mouseshouseantiques on Instagram for inventory drops, sneak peaks and previews!
