Next up from my recent inventory trip. I purchased this from a friend / partner of mine in Belgium early in my trip and proceeded to wear it all around Belgium and into France! So it carries with it many happy memories! : )
It's the swoon worthy scrolling openwork details that just give me heart eyes! The swirls are reminiscent of flames in some places and leaves in others - all leading up to the exceptionally bright white antique old mine cut that totals over half a carat.
While I bought it in Belgium, I think it is likely French in origin. No hallmarks remain, sold to me at 18k by a reputable dealer and tested to confirm. This one reads rose gold with a buttery yellow glow from the recesses. Wonderful antique patina with a professionally polished finish.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 6 3/4 on my mandrel, slightly under.
The ring face is 10mm north south and about 4.5mm off the finger.
The ring weight is 4.9 grams.
The diamond measures 5mm. I would not remove it from the setting for an exact measurement but it is at least half a carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
I love antique diamonds, even those with inclusions or warm hues typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut by hand to enhance their best characteristics. So I don’t often like to compare antique stones against modern grading standards - but I will say this one has quite a bright white color, good fire and a very nice clarity. One small cloudy / frosty speck inclusion near the open culet that can catch the light, seen when looking through the stone that is slightly eye visible.
Very sturdy setting but a seam inside at each shoulder where the design ends, probably from a sizing?
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
