I love all old cut diamonds but it is so fun to find them in shapes outside of round. And as someone who looks at antique jewelry every day, it's difficult to find these especially in this size. She's a rare one!

Here we have a 3.5 carats (approx) antique softened cornered triangular or large / wide pear rose cut diamond in a foiled and closed back vintage setting. Rose cuts are by nature spready so it faces up at four carats, even larger than its size (exact of which is unknown since we can't get an accurate depth measurement and to scale it would mean destroying the piece). Adding in the other diamonds in the halo and setting, the pendant faces up with a value over 5.4 carats in diamonds. All the diamond are in the closed backed drop like setting with gold domed backs.

It is bright and reflective, a nice shooter of rainbows with nicely domed top compared to some of the shallower more disk like rose cuts we sometimes see. This cut is called a dutch (or also named holland, Antwerp or crowned rose cut) with the higher, more domed crown.

This knockout diamond is set in a sort of floral and leaf designed drop pendant surrounded by 28 old single cut diamonds in collet settings creating a halo. This part of the pendant is attached by loop to the leaf and bale design which are also set with rose cut diamonds that are round and pear in shape. So the pendant is crafted as three separate parts and connected by loops to allow movement so it dangles nicely. All three parts have domed backs and antique style of fabrication.

I do wish I know the stories this one could tell because while the rose cuts are definitely antique and the old single cuts are at least older vintage, cut using methods that came before the modern diamond cutting of today, I can't say exactly how old the pendant itself is. I am listing it as vintage to be safe, because the work is a bit to crisp, the foil a bit too bright, etc. to say with confidence that it is antique. To me, the antique stone appears to have been re-set in the retro vintage period with fabrication in the antique style.

I got this pendant on chain in Paris but I don't know where it was made. The pendant is crafted in 14k gold with some partial hallmarks on the loop that I can't make out. The chain is longer, heavy solid gold and also vintage, but from Italy, with their full hallmarks for 18k gold.

Please feel free to request more videos (easy to send through instagram) as I have several videos in all lighting and it gives a more true to life look, compared to the photos which seem to catch a lot of reflections that aren't prevalent in real life.

The main diamond was evaluated by the gemologist on site where I purchased it in Paris. They estimated to be around 3.5 carats, M-Z in color, SI2 in clarity. See report below as my diamond write ups always provide a lot more detail than a letter grade can. Again, it does appear to be on the spreadier side, facing up larger than that, upwards of four carats. Just measuring the stone while set, it is about 11.7x11.5mm. It widens out an unknown amount in the setting and exact depth is unknown.

Antique box from my collection and the vintage 18k chain it came on ARE included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
See above for the main diamond.

The entire drop pendant measures 39mm top to bottom including the bale and the widest portion is 17.6mm. The setting is 7.7mm deep from the top of the crown of the rose cut to the bottom of the dome, depth of the stone is unknown.
The pendant weighs 6.1 grams.
The 18k chain is a very nice quality weighing 10.75 grams of solid gold at 23.5 inches in length. The value of the vintage chain alone is quite high as well being a wearable piece of jewelry at that weight.

The 28 old single cut diamonds measure 1.8mm each adding another .55 carat.
The three larger rose cuts on the leaf measure 3.5mm, 4mm and the round is 5.3mm. The one on the bale is 2.9mm, there are five smaller single cuts filling in as well.

Total carat weight on the pendant as a face up appearance (since diamond depths are unknown) is about 5.4 carats.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Very nice sparkle and a lovely warm to pale yellow color that we love to find on antique diamonds and often expect to see since they were cut during a period when the mines in use produced a warmer rough. It faces up whiter in some conditions and lights up a truer yellow color in others. The foil is bright and reflective so it is a lively piece. Feel free to request more videos as it accurately represents the diamond more than the still photos which can soak up the foil. Because it appears to have been crafted in the vintage period, the foil is white and reflective, not overall muddy or rusty. We can see a few tiny dark specks and some cloudy spots to the foil back under magnification when studying the back looking through the diamond but it is not attention grabbing as it is difficult to see past the magnificent old cut diamond.

The large diamond has two half moon / thumbnail inclusions that are slightly warm and frosty and can catch the light. There is also a pocket inclusion that is not visible face up but can be seen when turning the stone to the side. There is an indented natural inclusion on the bottom left corner of the large stone, partially covered by the gold cut down collet setting but still eye visible. Some of the girdle edges can be seen under magnification, they are unpolished / frosty as expected for an antique stone. The smaller stones have a few specks and natural variances as well but they are smaller so it is not glaring.

Each of the small old single cuts are held by little bead prongs that show some wear from age so I always recommend gentler wear on my pieces with multiple small stones but the star of the show, the large diamond along with the other rose cuts are super secure and well held with no movement so in that regard, the important parts are very sturdy and can handle more regular wear. Some patina to the gold. A few small ripples to the chain but it is sturdy and stable. An impressive piece to wear!

My items do very well without paperwork as the four C's scale does not apply well to antique diamonds, having been cut in much more limited supply. I do not take my pieces apart for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!

SOCIAL:
Please also feel free watch @mouseshouseantiques on Instagram for inventory drops, sneak peaks and previews!
