ABOUT:

Very Unique piece with striking coloring and a nice size footprint on the finger - French 18k gold ring with a center blue sapphire surrounded by a scrolling shield or garland design, this halo is encrusted with rose cut diamonds in the closed back setting with two old mine cuts at one end with open backs. Buttery gold patina and the most lovely deep royal blue coloring to the stone with the sparkle of the rose cut diamonds. I suspect the sapphire is synthetic looking at its perfect clarity and color as that was a popular choice for the period.

This is an antique piece that I acquired in France from the Belle Epoque period. No hallmarks remain which is common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm. The shank is yellow gold with rosy highlights from age and patina, it has a lovely, rich coloring and glow. Beautiful form and movement extending to the elegantly detailed shoulders.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures a size 9 1/2 - should be sizable within reason as there are no stones set into the shank but best to check with your local jeweler who would be doing the work as opinions vary greatly with modern jewelers working on antiques. Weighs 3.3 grams. The sapphire is about 10x6.5mm and the ring face is 22x13mm.

CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are preowned and in estate condition. Typical antique rose cuts, like rough cut shards, they are small and meant to add a glint of sparkle. They have some inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, some may have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. They read warm to gray due to age and the closed back setting. The two old mine cuts read a brighter white with the open backs. One of the smallest stones on the left side is a modern single cut replacement that was set upside down. And then one end has the pointed floral design which may be missing a diamond but appears when it was fabricated it was welded there so it may just be the metal work? As there is solder build up on the inside around where the garland meets the frame / ring base. I had planned to price it higher until I discovered these things, as it is a very beautiful design and has been highly inquired after on the Instagram previews. With the small stones and age to the setting it needs slightly more gentle wear but a stable piece. The sapphire is in excellent condition, it has a nice sheen and polish with really no abrasions. Some Surface wear from use and wear to the gold band commensurate with age. This one wears so beautifully!

Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
