ABOUT:

Beautiful early Georgian era Iberian ring with rubies, rose cut diamonds and deep green natural columbian emeralds in collet settings. This piece dates to the 1800s, c1700 to 1750. The ring face is domed and scalloped with the most prominent color being green which repeats again at each of the scalloped shoulders. The ruby is at center held up in a square pyramid with pie crust edging around all the layers.

Quite an old piece. Some ancient enamel remains in the recesses of the shank seen under magnification. I love the forked gold details at each shoulder of the shank.

I got this in Amsterdam but it has French hallmarks for 14k gold. The piece dates to older than the hallmark so I am certain of its origin but it is the classic Iberian style for jewels found from this early period.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

HALLMARKS:
French hallmark for 14k gold.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 9 1/4. It weighs a sturdy 4.5 grams.
The ring face is 15mm north south by 20mm east west from emerald to emerald so a nice size footprint on the finger. It domes 6mm tall.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Wonderful coloring and patina. There are some gaps around the ruby between the stone and the collet so it may be a replacement or a repair, the domed top is pinched above and below the stone to secure it. Typical antique stones with natural inclusions and some nicks. Some small chips, most noticeably at one of the emeralds at the shoulder. It still appears complete and fills the cut down collet setting but you can see its unevenness if you are studying it for flaws. The diamonds are rough cut with some frosty spots and nicks although some of this may have always been that way since they were rough cut by hand 300 years ago and were meant to add a glint of sparkle alternating with the emeralds. The emerald have an amazing color.

Shank is sturdy. Some build up as these should not be submerged or soaked in water with the closed back.
