ANTIQUE 1 Carat + OVAL Old Mine Cut DIAMOND & Pink Ruby Sapphire Cluster Ring 18k Gold
ANTIQUE 1 Carat + OVAL Old Mine Cut DIAMOND & Pink Ruby Sapphire Cluster Ring 18k Gold
ABOUT:
An antique cluster ring ready for daily wear! Gorgeous oval ring with eighteen old mine cut diamonds totaling over a carat total weight surrounding a beautiful pink ruby / sapphire in the center (same gem family with the only difference being based on the "pink hue"). Studying the stone - I believe the center stone is synthetic so I am selling it as such with no claims otherwise, as synthetic rubies and sapphires were a very popular choice for the period - people couldn't get enough of them. But it is definitely a corundum with the correct gemstone properties and not glass.
This piece had already had the "tips" / prongs fortified before I purchased it - the work was done tidily and all the stones are super secure in the long prongs so it does not have the age related wear we often see on these 125+ year old pieces. We also often see these rings crafted with white precious metal holding the diamonds, white gold, platinum or silver, as it was popular during the period to set diamonds in a white metal, but this one is in all gold - yellow gold and rosy gold.
French hallmark for 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, mice : ) not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 3/4. It weighs 4.9 grams. The ring face is 19x11mm and it stands 5.8mm off the finger.
The largest two diamonds at center are each around 3.2 and 3.5mm. The others in the cluster are around 2 to 3mm each. Exact depths of each and thereby exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove them from the setting but estimated over 1 carat in diamond weight.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The ring is in very sturdy condition having had all the prongs re-tipped. No chips or cracks to any of the stones or major damage. Typical antique diamonds with some frosty, faint natural inclusions. The larger stones are all eye clean and there are no dark carbon spots. There are areas of the gallery and ring face that appear rose gold, but the tips were done in yellow gold, so the ring has hues of both. The shank is also rosy in hue, not the vibrant pink rose gold of today but a warm rosy hue. The new tips are blunt, you notice it if you run your finger across the ring face and around the outside. Great to see an old piece ready to take on another 150 years with all the stones super secure.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
