ANTIQUE 1.4 Carat 9 Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Cluster Ring 5.9g 18k Gold c1883
ABOUT:
Nice and chunky sparkle to this cluster ring, unique in a buttercup setting with ornate prongs compared to the clusters we often see on skinny shanks. The buttery glowing wide shoulders dome up to the nice size ring face holding 1.4 carats in diamonds. There are 9 diamonds in all - the largest at center is around a half a carat, surrounded by a halo of eight additional.
What makes this one even more desirable are the sturdy prongs making this one ready for regular wear.
UK hallmarks for 18k, Birmingham, date 1883. This one actually may have been a unisex ring as gem set rings were also popular for men during the period.
Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7. Ring face is 13mm north south and 5mm tall off the finger. It weighs 5.95 grams.
Exact depths of the diamonds and thereby exact carat weight is unknown / approximate but it was sold to me from a reputable source at 1.4 carats in diamonds. The center diamond is 5.2mm and around .5 carat alone. The old mine cuts in the halo are around 3mm each give or take.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds with some faint natural inclusions seen only under strong magnification, but clean to the eye, especially the largest center stone. Nice to find, as we often see more inclusions during the period, before such things were emphasized for machine cut diamonds. Also nice to find all the diamonds so secure in sturdy prongs. The diamonds in the cluster are nicely matching with an excellent antique sparkle. A tiny flea bite, smaller than a nibble here or there and certainly not eye visible.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
