THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT ~

ABOUT:
Awesome larger sized bar pin or brooch with striking color and sparkle due to the vibrant square green paste (meant to look like emeralds but are not) surrounded by 26 rose cut diamonds. This would be awesome converted to a pendant as a jeweler could easily add a loop to each end and a chain.
The piece is crafted in 18k gold and topped in silver as was the custom for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. It has the dual French hallmark for the gold and silver.
Antique box in photos is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
69mm / about 2 3/4 inches in length end to end. Each floral cluster is about 16mm. Weight is a sturdy 9.1 gram.
The diamonds measure about 2.3 to 4mm each. Exact depth and thereby carat weight is unknown as I would never remove them from the setting but many appear to be the more thinly sliced old rose cuts while others have a bit of a disco ball dome to them. Just using online estimates by millimeter I am getting over 1 3/4 carats total weight in diamonds / 1.75 Twd.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some of the diamonds are in closed back foiled settings, the ones set into the bar have open backs. Those with the foiled back show some warm hues from deterioration and age to the foil, some have a mauve pink discoloration which is actually quite lovely. One of the green paste stones is chipped with shallow flakes of loss but still appears as fully square. Typical antique rose cuts with nicks, plenty of natural inclusions, some rough and irregular cuts and frosty spots. A few chipped edges, we often see this on small rose cuts of this age and some of the aforementioned may have always been there as they were hand cut. Some dark patina to the silver. Still a great antique look and wonderful sparkle.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
