ANTIQUE 27 Gram 18k Gold Red GARNET Orb Purple Glow Cabochon French Hinged Bangle Bracelet
ANTIQUE 27 Gram 18k Gold Red GARNET Orb Purple Glow Cabochon French Hinged Bangle Bracelet
ABOUT:
A gorgeous and sturdy French Victorian era antique bangle bracelet set with six 7mm domed cabochon garnets to give the piece a beautiful purplish red juicy berry glow from within the stones. Crafted in sturdy 18k solid gold, the piece weighs 27 grams.
This is not the piece for folks who like their 140 year old jewelry to look brand new : )
This one is imperfect and being sold as is but is still wearable. It has surface wear and some shallow impressions and dings giving it a rippled appearance here and there because while the bangle is a circle of solid gold, it is hollow inside. It still functions and snaps securely closed and opens well as intended. Just needs a gentle hand. I still feel it's special with the gorgeous garnets all the way around.
Found in Paris. French hallmarks for 18k gold with goldsmith stamp on the latch insert.
Antique props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is almost 27 grams.
The inside opening is 60x55mm.
I can't get my tape measure to wrap around it but I have a 5.5 inch wrist and I can wear it, especially in a stack, but it can barely slide it off and on without opening it so it would fit better on a larger wrist than mine.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This one was difficult to photograph. There are no dark or green spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it reflects its surroundings including trees outside the window.
As mentioned there are some shallow linear impressions and dings giving it a rippled appearance here and there. There is differing patina by the hinge, most visible on the inside but slightly detected on the outside. The garnet there has solder around the inside setting and there are two deeper dings there so that is the area with the worst of the wear. One of the garnets is chipped with a circular shard of loss but it still appears round and fills the bezel, it's just when you study the surface in a reflection that you can see the loss. Some of the garnets move slightly but are in no danger of coming free. This sturdy piece actually has a high melt value because of its weight but I never scrap antiques, especially ones as beautiful and wearable as this.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it reflects its surroundings.
