ABOUT:

Striking color and fabulous sparkle to this antique gemset clasp. The marquise shape is set with 14 old mine cut diamonds totaling around 3/4 carat with a beautiful pink ruby / sapphire in the center (same gem family with the only difference being based on the "pink hue"). Studying the stone - I assume the center stone is synthetic, a popular choice for the period, but definitely a corundum with the correct gemstone properties and not glass.

These old findings serve double duty as it is an antique clasp to hook two ends of a chain together, but could also be worn as a pendant or charm. You can add a jump ring and put it on any chain hanging down, or you can attach the ends of a chain to each side to wear it to off to the side or bottom as a chain accent with additional pendants.

The clasp functions really well, nice and tight, snaps firmly closed and has a safety clasp hook to secure it. I have a ring this goes beautifully with, even though I bought them in different places.

French hallmarks for 14k gold on both loops.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.

Antique Boxes, props, chains, mice : ) not included. I just laid it over my staging chain to show examples of how to wear.

MEASUREMENTS:

20mm x 10mm x 5mm deep. It weighs 1.8g.
The diamonds are each 2.2 to 2.5mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Some tiny nicks to the table facet of the ruby but no cracks or chips, it appears complete with a wonderful color. There are also some scuffs to the culet - these are not really visible when wearing but I noticed they make the stone look worse in the pictures when held up to the light to see those through the back of the stone. Typical antique diamonds with some small frosty spots and natural inclusions under magnification. No dark carbon spots and the stones are small so nothing glaringly eye visible. A few stones read a bit warm to gray, also typical for old mine cuts. Note the small loops when considering connecting / adding jump ring!

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
