ABOUT:

Heavy and Chunky glowing gypsy ring set with a domed rose cut diamond that has a pale yellow (to the eye) to almost lime green (under magnification) hue. Exact measurements of the rose cut are not known but using estimates by millimeter it is around .7 to .8 carat. Adding to that, this sturdy piece has an excellent hand feel weighing 10.6 grams in 18k gold.

This French antique piece from the turn of the century / early 1900s holds the rose cut diamond up like a little disco ball. It is in a closed back setting. The gold is a lovely antique 18k gold with a buttery glow and rosy highlights from age.

The diamond has the hue visible to the eye, aided by the gold in the closed back setting. In some light it appears paler, and more white when the faceted domed tops catch the light. It has a lovely sparkle.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

HALLMARKS:
French hallmarks for 18k gold.

MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures a size 8 1/2. Ring face is 10mm north to south, tapering but remaining wider all the way around. It stands 4.7mm off the finger. The gold work is thick so it weighs a sturdy 10.6 grams.

The diamond is about 6.5mm measuring the visible portion, it widens out further an unknown amount in the setting. Like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. A round modern brilliant diamond with 1 carat total weight has the same diameter of around 6.5mm for comparison's sake and to give you an idea of scale. Exact depth is also not known as I would not remove the stone, but using online estimates of rose cuts by millimeter it is around .7 to .8 carat.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamond with some natural inclusions that look like a speck here or there. There are also two linear inclusions, one of which carries up to the surface leaving a polished over crease at one edge. This is very slightly eye visible if you are really looking for it in direct light, but not really evident with normal wear. One thing that is more noticeable would be the slightly cloudy appearance from the closed back setting. The satin texture of the gold work can catch the light and is visible when looking through the stone. There is also a bit of cloudiness from age to the closed back so the diamond with its hues and cut and these factors definitely has a more subtle sparkle. It gives the piece quite a unique appearance with a beautiful warmth that us antique jewelry addicts love to see. The stone moves slightly but does not rattle or click and is very secure in the large and sturdy bezel. Excellent quality hand feel.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
