Here is a personal collection release that I have enjoyed because I love jewelry with secrets.
This beautifully ornate 18k gold ring has a glass covered compartment and a sturdy back door that allows it to hold any number of things. You could put in some tiny gems for sparkle, a photo, a lock of hair or fur, and I find it quite beautiful even empty with the embossed frame around the cover and the ornate swirling shoulders.
On the back of the compartment, the gold door panel that opens is engraved with the initials EM in ornate script. This is also the location where it was stamped with the French hallmark for 18k gold with a goldsmith stamp. It is crafted in rich and glowing 18k yellow gold with some rosy highlights from age. Lovely!
This is one of my favorite locket rings that I have had because of all the ornate details. It is also in excellent condition. Often times we see these with the beveled glass scuffed to a cloudy finish but this one is still nicely mirrored. The 100+ year old hinge of the compartment door is still sturdy as well. It does not snap closed (it never did as it was just meant to push closed) and is not water tight I assume.
Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/2, a little over.
The ring face is 7.3mm north to south and the little compartment is 8mm wide. It weighs 2.45g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Just a few flea bites to the beveled edges under magnification only. Better than most condition.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
