Antique Old Flat Cut GARNET 18k GOLD BUTTERCUP Dormeuse French Dangle Drop EARRINGs Buttercup Victorian
Antique Old Flat Cut GARNET 18k GOLD BUTTERCUP Dormeuse French Dangle Drop EARRINGs Buttercup Victorian
ABOUT:
Wonderful French antique earrings in glowing 18k gold each set with a flat cut garnet. The double scalloped halo in the buttercup design gives the earrings a beautiful antique look, like something you would see in a period movie. The pinkish red color of the garnets is really lovely. Beautiful buttery antique gold patina that is rich and warm.
These earrings are called "dormeuse" in French which translates to "sleeper", meant to be dainty and small, comfortable enough to sleep in, used in olden times to keep the ear holes open overnight : ) Of course these days we don't recommend all night 24/7 wear on these antique pieces with intricate 100 year old gold hinges.
No hallmarks remain but it was sold to me as 18k which is the standard in France and tested to confirm.
Please note the measurements. I always include them in each listing but people tend to miss them - I have to show zoom photos for detail which can make it hard to determine scale.
The wires latch into the little ball rivet details atop the front of the earring.
Antique box not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They are a nice size, measuring 17.7mm from top of the ear wire to bottom with the buttercup setting 11mm wide. The stones are each about 5.5mm in diameter each. Pair weighs 2.85 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As with all my pieces these are pre-owned and in estate condition. A worn prong here or there to keep an eye on over time, but there are plenty of prongs with length left so the stones are both very secure. No chips or cracks to the stones, some natural inclusions under magnification.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
