ABOUT:
This one has a lot going for it. Rare, wonderful and quite attention grabbing figural ring with pear shaped vibrant pink ruby surrounded by a halo of rose cut diamonds. At the top is a 3D double sided silver crown with two additional rose cut diamonds below it.
The skinny band shank is created with a channel holding brown braided hair. The crown has an open loop at the top so I wonder if it was a pendant at one time or if it was always a ring. I think the ruby is likely synthetic as it has a vibrant color and great clarity.
French hallmarks for silver and a partial gold stamp, it tests at 14k with a pretty, rosy patina.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a 6 3/4. The ring face is 23x8mm. The piece weighs 2.12 grams. The shank is 2.2mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my estate pieces are preowned and in estate condition. This one needs gentle wear due to the old hair work and the pointed top of the crown which is a bit sharp. There is buildup on the back that looks like wax, it may be soap or lotion but I didn't attempt to clean it as I did not want to ruin the hair work. Plenty of patina. These are typical old rose cut diamonds, cut by hand so they have the beautifully irregular and sometimes imperfect antique look to them. Some natural icy looking inclusions and champagne hues or grayish tones seen under magnification. Some nicks, a jagged or frosty edge or unpolished area here and there to the old cut stones - some from age and wear or possibly just always cut that way. But to the eye they add a nice sparkle and antique look which to me is preferable to the modern, perfectly machine cut diamonds. But that’s just me : )
Of course considering age this is not a mint condition item. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
