I know many of us antique jewelry addicts also have a passion for antique jewelry boxes. Here is a fine one that I just purchased from an awesome antique shop on my recent inventory trip to Texas - I present to you Auntie Bessie's Box!

ABOUT:

Sturdy and interesting antique multi ring holder / jewelry box with crystal base and sterling silver lid. The thick glass crystal body of the box has circular details and texture with a star cutout on the underside. The lid is sterling silver, hallmarked for Birmingham with a date stamp of 1916. So the deeper marks you see on the lid along one edge are the hallmark strikes.

I lined the box with three foam and velvet ring holders so the box can hold five rings as the seams in between them also serve as slots to hold rings as seen in photos. Please note the measurements as it is a petite box and wouldn't hold extra tall or large sized rings.

Inside the lid we have a label written "Auntie Bessie's - Gm (for Grandma) Whalleys Aunt" . I gave the lid a hand polish but I thought the family label was cute so I didn't remove it. The smooth lid could also be personalized or engraved by someone in your area if you wanted to make it more your own or give it as a gift. Please see important condition notes below.

The inserts are not super fancy, I just inserted them from some of my jewelry boxes to make the box ready to use. The inserts can be easily removed or a better, custom insert could be made - but as I would use it as a ring holder, I thought I would sell it as such. It is always fun to store our antique treasures in antique housing.

The lid removes completely (it is not hinged). It is sterling but it does have some dings and flexes some.

Jewelry in the display is not included (but is available : )

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

(length x width x height): 3 3/4 inch by 1.7 inch by 1.15 inch deep. That is the box base with lid measurements. The inside opening is about 1 inch by 2 3/4 inches and the depth inside is a little under 1 inch. The rings in the picture are sized 5 to 7 with low ring faces and they all fit but rings with taller settings or larger sizes may not so please check the measurements. It would also work well to hold a collection of skinny stackable bands.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The sterling lid is thin and quite rippled due to pin dings and wear. It cleaned up nicely and has a beautiful mirrored finish which can show said wear. The box lid does flex some if you apply a lot of pressure to the center but opens well and closes securely. No punctures but note the dings and dents, some stubborn tarnish and cloudy spots, I did not clean inside the lid. I don't see any chips so the sturdy and beautiful crystal is in good shape. The foam inserts inside are nothing fancy, just three removable foam and velvet topped ring slots.

Still usable and beautiful! But my disclaimer with all my estate pieces - due to age, please note this piece is not in mint condition.

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
