ABOUT:
This is probably my favorite navette to date with the center texture of the chunky, high crowned old mine cut diamonds surrounded by the beautiful natural pinkish red ruby halo. This French antique piece packs quite a punch. The navette face is about an inch north south on the finger set with such a striking color and sparkle. There are 11 diamonds in all for a total weight of around .7 carat. The diamonds are oblong and set in an interesting way - the largest center oval diamond set east to west flanked by a pair of smaller oval diamonds set north south on each side. Also interesting that the center diamond has a warm to slightly pale yellow color which we love to see in antique stones.
Many of the old cut diamonds have crown facets that are long and triangular scissor cuts with really high crowns giving the ring face that awesome "crusty" cobblestone texture. (Mine cuts typically have three rows of facets to the crown whereas these have the single row of long facets). Some are more square shaped but with the still softened cushion cut corners. Extra chunky with that great antique sparkle. Perhaps a combination of a French cut / Old Mine Cut ? as diamond cutters at the time used their personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each diamond. It is always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds!
The halo of natural rubies are also cushion cut with large flat table facets set into yellow gold cut down collets around the outside with bead prongs on the inside edges. The gallery of the ring face is beautifully decorated with scalloped gold work.
A beautiful statement piece to wear.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
HALLMARKS:
Stamped with the French hallmark for 18k gold.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 3/4. The ring face is 26x9mm and stands about 4.7mm off the finger. The largest center stone is about 4.2mm east west to give you an idea of scale and the other diamonds are each around 2 to 2.5mm. Estimated total carat weight of diamonds alone is 0.7 carat. She weighs 4.3grams.
CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition, especially considering age. There are abrasions to the rubies around the table facets where there ares scuffs and a few scratches but this is seen mostly under magnification or if you study it close up in a reflection to see the texture. They still glitter beautifully with wonderful, ever so slightly varying colors since they are natural stones, and overall a nice sheen. The biggest thing of note is that one ruby has a tiny seam of adhesive around the inside edges securing it. It is not really eye visible until you study it up close from the side and see the opaque texture of the seam of adhesive. I had my jeweler re-tip the center stone as it was quite loose so it is now very secure, but we opted to leave the one ruby alone so as not to open a can of worms with loosening stones as we typically try to do the minimum possible so as not to muddle or over work the piece by trying to re-do everything. Most of my buyers prefer original condition and gentler wear. All the stones are secure. Typical antique old mine cuts with some nicks and natural frosty inclusions very slightly eye visible but no dark carbon spots or any glaring inclusions. The center diamond has a beautiful warm to pale yellow coloring and two smaller diamonds, one on each end are also warm in hue but less noticeable due to size. Overall a stunning piece with beautiful color and amazing sparkle.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : )
But of course due to age - Please note this piece is not in mint condition.
