ABOUT:
This French antique ring graces the top of the finger with a wonderful texture from all the old mine cut diamonds of varying sizes. They are set in a sort of cobblestone manner, almost like a pave with all the little stones filling in around the four larger diamonds at the center. The larger diamonds especially have high crowns that catch the light from the side. The ring face is boat shaped and curved above the sturdy shank which is forked at the shoulders and crafted in sturdy 18k gold.
Layers well with other pieces as it has a nice height, but with around 1.15 carats in old cut diamonds, it is certainly substantial enough to wear on its own.
No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 6, a little over
Weight: 4.6g
Ring face north south measurement: 9mm
Height off the finger: 4.3mm to the chunky crowns.
Three of the largest center diamonds are 3.5mm chunky cuts with those high crowns. One is slightly smaller at 3.2mm. Four measure 2 to 2.5mm and the other eight filling in are 1.5 to 1.7mm.
I would never remove them from the setting but estimated total weight is about 1.15 carats.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This one for antique diamonds has a nice fire and sparkle, the diamonds are not dull or lifeless at all. But due to age, they do have some wear and evidence of their 100 plus years. Four of the smallest stones appear all over frosty with natural inclusions and flakes of loss to the surface. Aside from the texture difference of the unpolished areas, the frostiness does make them not clear compared to the other diamonds. You should be able to detect this in the zoom photos as it is eye visible. The larger stones also have some inclusions that can catch the light but are only slightly eye visible and seen more under magnification. One of the larger stones is eye clean. One of the other larger stones has an indented natural inclusion in the girdle that appears as a notch and extends slightly within the stone. It is stable and not eye visible since it is tucked under the prong but I can see it when studying it under magnification.
Also typical for age, a worn prong here or there, especially to one of the larger stones that moves slightly in the setting. Most of my buyers prefer original condition and more special occasion wear so for regular wear you may want to consult a local jeweler with a laser welder to have a few tips fortified (you'd want to ask them to do the minimum possible, not make the piece "like new". The setting is very sturdy. Some patina in the recesses.
The piece was priced accordingly for the above reasons. She is not perfect but she is fun to wear with a nice carat weight.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
