THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT ~
Type: Ring

Size: 6 1/4, 1.5 Carat Tdw
Era: Victorian (1837-1901)

ABOUT:

Wonderfully sparkling natural sapphire ring with old cut diamonds in a large marquise navette shape. The sapphire is one carat and has a beautiful deep royal blue color. The diamonds on this piece are exceptional with six nice sized chunky old mine cuts with high crowns that crop out of the ring face. Between the six larger diamonds there are smaller old single cut diamonds giving the ring face a completely encrusted cobblestone look totaling 1.5 carats in diamonds alone. (So 2.5 carats total weight in gemstones).

I love how the six larger diamonds stand taller off the face than the single cuts adding an interesting alternating design element, depth and incredible sparkle. French antique ring with striking impact. Simple but sturdy shank in buttery 18k gold with ball rivet detail at each shoulder.

Antique Box not included.

HALLMARKS:
Shank is stamped with the French hallmark for 18k Gold it is partial but recognizable to me as I have seen it so many times : )

MEASUREMENTS:

Ring is a size 6 1/4. Ring face is 17x13mm, it stands 5.6mm off the finger on the large platform with openwork gallery. It weighs 4.85 grams. The sapphire is about 7x4.5mm and the larger diamonds are each 3.5mm with quite a lot of depth. I purchased this from a reputable source in Paris who estimated the carat weighs as listed above but I also measured them to confirm they were in that range as well.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The diamonds are exceptional, especially for antique stones, hand cut long before the four c's ever existed. I typically expect to see warmth and/or inclusions in antique diamonds so if they were there, it wouldn't bother me but these are really bright white and completely eye clean. Better than most I'd say. A tiny needle inclusion here or there seen only under strong magnification to the larger diamonds, the smaller ones have an occasional frosty inclusion again seen only under magnification. Not a single nick or chip, along with the quality, this one is in better than most condition as well considering age, with sturdy prongs ready for regular wear. Some surface scratches and a few tiny abrasions to the sapphire.

But my disclaimer with all my antique pieces - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
