ABOUT:
This eye catching piece is a more recent creation than most of my pieces but definitely Vintage and in the Victorian style. I just loved the unique coloring with the mix of gemstones - almost like an acrostic but doesn't spell anything I could decipher. So it a harlequin ring, a popular style in Victorian times, named so after the colorful costumes of the comedy actors known as harlequins.
The gemstones include a garnet at center, and then around the outside, oval pink tourmaline, blue topaz, purple amethyst and green peridot. Geometric cruciform design with chiseled shoulders.While it does not have the age of many of my pieces, it has the look and the trade off is that it is quite sturdy and ready for regular wear.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
HALLMARKS:
UK Hallmarks for 9k gold, Birmingham, 1995.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/2. Ring face is 18mm north south and each stone is about 6mm give or take. It weighs a sturdy 4.25grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Abrasions to the center garnet and peridot, the others have a lovely sheen and polish. Some natural inclusions to the amethyst. A bit of build up around the gallery which is decorated with closed work circular details.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still wearable. There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
