ABOUT:

Gorgeous glowing mourning ring set with a glossy red cabochon garnet with a wonderful sheen and color, curved to nest perfectly into the ring face. It is surrounded by a textbook Georgian era embossed design on the halo, leading to the open work shoulders which are also decorated with a little forget me not flower. The back panel behind the ring face is engraved for "Elizth (shortened for Elizabeth) Dickinson 06.22 Nov 1827 Aet 11yrs". What sorrow this piece commemorated. But also important to see these historical pieces preserved for future generations.

No hallmarks remain but tests at 14k gold. Sold to me as 15k when I found it in London, but I do not have a test for that, so you likely get one extra carat of gold for free - tee hee : )

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/4
Ring face: 11mm north south by 14mm, the garnet is 7x11mm.
Weight: 3.5g.

CONDITION NOTES:

Under magnification you can see some solder in the seams and slightly different hue at the shoulders - some of these are just the fabrication of the piece but looking inside the ring shoulders we can see some welds and solder perhaps from a fortification that was done. We see similar hues and some small bubbles inside to the back of the shank so the piece has been sized which may have led to that fortification at the shoulders being needed . The garnet is in very nice condition with a lovely sheen and polish. You can see the texture of ring face when you look through the stone and some slight gaps around the stone between the halo but considering its age from the early 1800s, it is a stable piece. We avoid getting these wet with the closed back settings.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
