DOVE Bird Pink Purple Perpignan GARNET Figural Pendant Charm French GEORGIAN Antique 18k Gold

ABOUT:
These antique Perpignan Garnets top my list of all time favorite gemstones. Their delicious berry wine coloring, light reflectivity and beautiful glow from within just make them so special and just so appealing to me.

This pendant is in the unique shape of a bird dangling down. I believe it is a dove - representing peace, hope, devotion, beauty, and faith. Virtues to cling to throughout time. This is an antique piece that I acquired in France. No hallmarks but tests at 18k which is the standard in France and sold to me as such from a reputable dealer.

These garnet are named as such for the region where they were mined in the South of France. They are known for their beautiful color and brilliance, along with the way the stones were cut. These mines have long since closed. In olden times Perpignan Garnets were thought to cure blood disorders and excessive anger, and symbolized constancy and loyalty.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There are some fortifications to the back. Also some shallow impressions and dings to the domed backs, not visible when wearing. One of the stones has a chipped wing tip. Still collectible and striking in form with the amazing garnets. Note the small jump ring.

Typical antique rose cuts with age to the foil back giving them warm to gray hues. It has a great antique look. Is it just me or does the bottom of the cross list to the left a bit? Typical antique rose cuts with natural inclusions and some frosty spots. Also some darker spots either inclusions or again age to the closed back.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
