ABOUT:

This is one of the most unique signets I have had - I love it. French antique ring in warm, antique 9k rose gold. The oval cartouche is situated horizontally with a crown above two ornately engraved initials - very pretty engravings, I can't quite make the letters out.

As an added design element there are green gold flowers at each shoulder for a beautiful contrast. About the engraved crown - it is a bit worn but the design of the crown symbol signifies a level of Nobility, however I cannot decipher if it is that of a Marquis, Count, Viscount, Baron. Of course now France is a republic and there is no royal family recognized by the French state, but as is the case here, the owner likely had a title and could trace their nobility back to the French royal family.

HALLMARKS:
French hallmark for 9k gold at the back.

Antique box is not included.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pics. Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 10 1/4. The ring face Is 15mm east west by 10mm north south, and 2.6mm off the finger. The piece weighs 5.53g.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Hollow fabrication customary for the time where there is vacant space between the ring face, and in the shank. Because of this there are shallow impressions or ripples, along the back of the shank, not very visible while wearing as the shoulders and ring face are intact. Also when you take the ring off, there are cracks to the gold inside the ring face from the gold being punctured or pressed. There is also a crack to the gold on the outside on the back of the shank. It is still wearable and does not flex, or bend or creak at the weaker areas but they are visible. Opinions vary a lot when it comes to modern jewelers working on antiques so you'd have to check with your local jeweler who would be doing the work about the possibility of fortifying it or sizing it with the old hollow fabrication. I just fell in love with it for the unique design and colored gold so the damage at the back of the shank didn't bother me, but definitely something to look for in pics as I am selling it as is.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
