Floral Pearl Cluster FRENCH Regional Antique 18k GOLD Poissarde EARRINGS

ABOUT:

Wonderful French regional antique poissarde earrings in 18k gold with pearls set into crimped bezels with a line and daisy design like a flower hanging from its stem. Even prettier in person than in the photos. These earrings are a substantial size and have a very antique look, like something you would see in a period movie. The bottoms have a rivet ball dangling accent and the earrings are in warm rosy antique gold from patina to the antique gold.

The earrings have a lever back that clips into the ball rivet in the front at the top of the earring. This style of earring also has an additional wire below connecting the front and back curved sections of the earring, I assume for added stability. The name of this style earring "Poissarde" is derived from the fishwives of Paris who were the first to wear them and who played a significant role during the French Revolution. The knowledgeable dealer I purchased these from thought these regional jewels were probably from Normandy. Regional, or folk jewelry, is defined by a particular style confined to a particular region.

Antique box is not included, I wanted to sell them in an antique box but they were too large for all the earring boxes I have so they will come in a new box.

HALLMARKS:

These have the French antique mark that was used on 18k gold between 1838 and 1919 which confirms the age of the earrings.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They are a nice size, measuring 37mm from the top of the wire to the curved bottom and 13mm wide at the round halo. The pair weighs 4.6 grams combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces these are pre-owned and in estate condition. Beautiful rich patina. The pearls are all natural and all original with beautiful lustre, they seem in better than most condition with no build up or evidence of adhesive . Surface wear and scratches and age related wear to the gold and could probably use a bit more cleaning is really the only thing. Still nicely shaped. Could take a more thorough cleaning if desired but most of my buyers prefer original patina. The gold and design is beautiful and it is a very sweet pair. But as with all my pre-owned pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item.

There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings.
