French Antique 15g 18k GOLD Multi Strand Watch Chain Choker Necklace Onyx Red Garnet 16" Victorian

Unique antique watch chain with gemset slides that makes a wonderful necklace chain or pendant holder for your neckmess / neckstack. It measures 16 inches in length with a single chain leading to ball rivet details. From there extends four separate rolo / belcher link chains with warm antique patina. As accents there are two double sided slides set with onyx (one set with something else, more condition notes below). At each of the four corners around the onyx of the slides there are set small red cabochon garnets. This is an antique piece from the 1800s Victorian to possibly Georgian era.

I enjoyed wearing this as a necklace. My favorite way was to wear the attached dog clip to the back with the four strands draping across the front. I then moved the slides to the center and use one of my dog clips as a pendant holder between the two slides. I showed a picture as an example (the added pendant and additional dog clip in the last photo are not included in the purchase but give you an idea of how it can be styled. I do have some additional dog clips listed in the shop if you'd like to add one as a pendant holder, otherwise the chain wears beautifully as is with just the chain and slides)

This piece is crafted 18k solid gold, which has a rich warm patina with rosy highlights and a buttery glow. I just love the look of antique gold like this!

I purchased this in France. French hallmark for 18k Antique boxes / items in displays in photos are not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 15g. Stretched end to end it's 16 inches. The thickness / gauge of each dainty rolo chain link is about 1.7mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

One of the flat cut onyx is missing and the vacant space was filled with a dark material - possibly resin? It sits lower in the bezel than all the flat cut onyx do and is a slightly different hue with a sort of textured uneven surface. But it came to me this way and I think it is preferable to an open / vacant bezel. It is possible a replacement flat cut onyx could be inserted but I did not have one so I am selling it as is, as I would have listed it higher if that one small piece were not missing.

Note that the slides do not stay fixed in place. They can be moved higher, closer to the ball rivets but you'd have to add a small jump ring or something as a stopper to fix it in place, as they tend to slide down to the bottom of the necklace with wear. They work well though to wear at center, flanking an added pendant as mentioned above and shown in the pictures.

The piece also has signs of age with wear to the gold chain links. It is still stable, especially with four chains, but I can see the wear to the gold under magnification. The four chains come out of the ball rivets and slides as a cluster, so they don't lie flat or drape, but are meant to roll around eachother as a cluster of chains. This is how it was made.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Beautiful rich patina that has warmed the 18k gold - it has a beautiful glow. Some signs of it being worn from age, where there is a very slight / gradual curve, or a ripple here or there but still very stable. Some surface wear but this is only seen if you study it up close due to the mirrored finish. To the eye and while wearing it as an amazing color and shine, like I said it truly glows and the 18 plus grams of solid 18k gold make it a special piece indeed. Sturdy, wearable and interesting piece in the solid gold version. There are no dark or colored spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings. Impactful worn alone but also layers well with other pieces.
