French Antique .85tdw .6 Carat Chunky Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Halo Signet Oval Geometric Ring Band 8g 18k Gold Platinum
ABOUT:
My favorite thing about this ring is the incredibly high crowned old mine cut that crops tall off the center of the ring face. What a great antique stone! This impactful sparkler is chunky, sleek and glittery.
This vintage French ring is crafted in 18k gold and topped in platinum. It has an antique old mine cut diamond at the center as the star, which is accented by a halo of 16 brilliant cut diamonds for added sparkle. Certainly a custom piece - We often sees these where the assumption is that someone re-set an antique inherited family or ancestral old cut diamond into a later setting. I purchased this one in Paris. It has the French hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum. The later setting also has some age to it with rosy highlights from patina to the gold. It appears to have been professionally polished to make the sleek shoulders nicely mirrored and to smooth over some of the age related surface wear. A great unisex style, appropriate for men or women and in an average size.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is about a size 7. I couldn't get an exact measurement because it has two ball rivets in gold soldered to the back inside of the shank. The purpose of these can be for sizing, or arthritic fingers, but also as is the case with this ring – it is to provide weight and a hold at the base of the finger since the piece is top heavy, so it doesn't spin sideways while wearing. It can easily be removed by any jeweler, and especially if the buyer plans to have the piece sized. Otherwise it is wearable and comfortable as is. The piece weighs a sturdy 7.9grams.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones from the setting but the chunky center old mine cut is 5.3mm and is estimated around 0.6 carat. The sixteen diamonds in the halo each measure about 1.5mm. Total carat weight for all the stones combined is around .85 Carat.
Stands 6.5mm off the finger, the oval diamond encrusted ring face is 13.5mm by 11mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Typical antique diamond with a slightly warmer hue. It has two frosty feather inclusions in the pavilion off to the side and a needle inclusion across the open culet. The feather inclusions can catch the light and are eye visible. No dark or carbon spots. The halo of machine cut modern brilliants are brighter white in color, one reading a bit milky. It's a sturdy piece in nice condition. There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
