ABOUT:
Ever popular five stone band in 18k gold with "crowned" rose cut diamonds (as the French call them) set in platinum. This one is especially nice in that the ring is open backed, allowing the rose cuts a lovely, bright clarity and untamed sparkle with no foil to worry about getting wet - even though I still love antique foil backed rings, this one is just easier to wear!
This ring is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces. I purchased it in Paris.
HALLMARKS:
Faint French hallmarks remain for 18k and platinum. Not super legible but I've seen them hundreds of times : )
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a snug size 7 3/4. The ring face is 6mm north south and the stones span 19mm east west. It weighs 3.75 grams. The center diamond is 5mm, graduating down to 4mm and 3mm towards the ends. They are typical rose cuts with flat backs so exact carat weight is unknown but they do have a bit of a dome to them (thus the crowned rose cuts term). Just using online estimates it's a little over .4 carat?
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique rose cuts, one on the end is more rough cut and triangular where as the others have a rounder shape and more legible dome. They do have some frosty, unpolished edges, some faint natural inclusions and one has a pale yellow hue under magnification. There are a few spots with a shallow flake of loss leaving an unpolished frosty area. The two on one end especially (this includes the more triangular rougher cut stone.). Still a beautiful antique sparkle and no dark carbon inclusions. It wears beautifully and some of this we expect to see on a piece of this age, but you will see these issues if you are studying the piece for flaws.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
