FRENCH Antique RUBY Lucky Number # 13 Pendant Rose Cut DIAMOND 18k Gold Edwardian
FRENCH Antique RUBY Lucky Number # 13 Pendant Rose Cut DIAMOND 18k Gold Edwardian
ABOUT:
Awesome French Antique pendant of the figural lucky number 13 designed with vibrant red to pink square cut rubies and set with rose cut diamonds for sparkle. Milgrain details around the number. Openwork detail around the overlapping numbers to make it really pop.
Note that the rubies are set every other in the bezel. I assume one was lost so rather than custom cut a new one, they decided to make it a design element where the stones are set every other giving the number 1 a striped appearance. I actually think it looks pretty great and was a clever idea, but selling as is, priced less than if it was complete with rubies.
13 was traditionally considered a lucky number in France prior to World War I, and was used in numerical form as a good luck symbol during the Victorian to Art Nouveau period.
Found in Paris. French hallmark for 18k with goldsmith stamp.
Any props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
24mm to the top of the attached loop by 21mm wide. It weighs 2.3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. Rubies missing as mentioned above. No dings or dents. Still very legible with rich antique 18k gold. Some surface wear but beautiful coloring and sparkle. Typical antique rose cuts with rough and frosty edges, as they are small and hand cut. They always look this way. But my disclaimer with all my estate pieces - this is not a mint condition item.
Let me know of any questions and thanks for stopping by!
