French GEORGIAN Antique Teardrop RoSE Cut Foiled PERPIGNAN GARNET 18k GoLD Stud EARRiNGS Pear Victorian Gift

I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:

These were in my keep pile but I just don't wear them enough so they're looking for a new friend. Wonderful French Georgian antique stud earrings in 18k gold set with a nice sized, rose cut, pear / teardrop shaped, foiled Perpignan garnet - phew that's a mouthful! They are named as such for the region where they were mined in the South of France.

The stones have the most beautiful color and reflect flashes of burgundy wine color from the back. Note one is cracked but still complete and secure - more condition notes below. Beautiful buttery antique gold patina with beautiful shine.

Antique box used for staging is not included.

HALLMARKS:
The earring backs are stamped 750 for 18k gold, but they are a replacement. The earrings are unmarked but test at 18k and are very French where the standard was 18k.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They are a nice size, measuring 11mm by 7mm. Combined weight is 1.6 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces these are pre-owned and in estate condition. One of the stones is unfortunately cracked along the top with a flake of loss to the surface of the garnet. The same one also has a hairline on the lower part but it is not visible to the eye and seen only under magnification. The natural garnets are such a deep and beautiful color that it helps mask the cracks but you can see the top one when it catches the light if you study it close up and are looking for it. I don't think it would be very noticeable while wearing and to be honest, the photos seemed to me to show it more than the eye. The stones are very tightly secured in the bezels so it is not in danger of falling out. They have some natural inclusions and some slight spotting to the foil seen under light up magnification only. The earring backs are a modern replacement. The posts are a bit curvy from age and wear but they are still sturdy and do the trick and again this would not be noticeable while wearing. They are honestly really beautiful. A bit of build up under magnification so they could take a more thorough cleaning if desired but most of my buyers prefer original patina and these should not get wet for risk of deteriorating the foil back.
