ABOUT:
Awesome French antique 18k solid gold necklace with an enameled barrel pendant that connects to a dog clip to hold pendants. Intricate round fine mesh chain doubles at the front where it is accented by two engraved sliders that are reversible and set with carnelian sardonyx on each side. The center pendant holder is fixed / clamped to the chain, but the slides can be adjusted up or down. I think this was made by watch chain components as the bottom loop of the barrel appears to have a loop welded on, the top loop though appears original so I think it was a clasp originally and they added it as a decorative element.
Certainly one of a kind. Nice length and drapes beautifully. This is an antique piece that I acquired in France from the 1800s early Victorian era. These pieces are becoming more and more scarce, as these folk traditional pieces fell out of use in the early 1900s.
Many French hallmarks for 18k on the clasp, loops, dog clip, etc. Antique boxes / items in displays in photos are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 20.4g. It is about 19 inches in length stretched end to end. The slides are 15mm and the little barrel pendant is about 26mm from loop to loop.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition. Some loss to the enamel making the designs a little harder to make out. (I've heard of people using enamel paint or even a tiny sharpie pen to fill in the low relief area to darken the image - this is less intense than emnamel repair.) A few slight ripples to the chain but beautiful rich antique patina. The clasp functions well and is sturdy and secure. Uniform surface wear from age but fantastic to wear. Scarce and interesting piece in solid gold.
