ABOUT:
Beautiful Victorian era French antique earrings with a lovely scrolled design set with a green paste stone meant to look like an emerald. Perfect antique patina, wonderful coloring.
They are inserted into the ear from the back toward the front where the hooked ear wire is latched into the little catch atop the earring.
Would be a beautiful something old for a bride. These are often dainty and petite (they are translated "sleepers" in French because they were meant to be worn overnight : ) so please note the measurements.
French hallmarks for 18k gold with goldsmith stamp. Antique box not included.
18mm from top of ear wire to bottom by 9mm wide. The stones are each about 3.5mm square. They weigh 1.6 grams.
Some nicks / abrasions to the stones on the side facets, the tops look nice. The wear is seen mostly under magnification.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, small nicks. They also may have some build up and some imperfections and other age related wear, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still functioning and wearable. For pieces with more patina, this can often be cleaned up / polished by the buyer but most of my customers prefer original patina so I sell them as is.
These old pieces always need a gentle hand as pretty much all French dormeuse have a dainty fabrication (not to mention 125 year old hinges) but they latch securely and the hinges function well. These are very popular, I’ve sold many and buyers often report back that it just takes a little practice and patience inserting the hooked end from behind and then latching them while on the ear but that they get the hang of it with time. : )
Still beautiful and appropriate for gentle handling considering age and fabrication.
