ABOUT:
I have had a few of these, but the patina on this one is so delicious. Of all the designs, I love the laurel and ribbon garland surround, which I believe dates it to older than some of the more Art Deco and later designs. As the laurel surround was a very popular Art Nouveau motif.
This is a Paris find - Sweet and dainty little monochromatic French 18k gold charm or pendant made by A. Augis. It has a textured satin background with a more rosy gold patina with higher shine around the outline and on the plus and minus signs. But all gold coloring and a lovely rich patina.
These collectible love medals read " Qu’hier, Que Demain.” This French phrase translates to “more than yesterday, less than tomorrow” speaking of ones love to another. The phrase is a reference to a 19th century French love poem that translates: "For, you see, each day I love you more, Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.” Swoon!
These are collectible because there are many styles and variations which make beautiful additions to a charm bracelet, amulet necklace, neckmess or neckstack. Textbook French!
It is a fairly lightweight piece - it is real 18k gold, not gold plated or gold filled.
HALLMARKS:
It is hallmarked on the loop with the French eagle hallmark for 18k gold. Also has the AA stamp on the side and is stamped "Depose" which is French for a registered / patented design which is also something usually seen on older pieces. There is another impression on the right side of the loop but I do not see any letters or symbols on it, it just appears as an impression.
The chain in the photos is not included, the fist chain is my own and the dragon clip is listed separately in the shop. This is just how I plan to wear it until it sells : )
MEASUREMENTS:
23 mm tall to the top of the loop by 15 mm wide. Weighs 2.5 g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Some surface wear to the gold from wear over the years, but no deep dings or bends or anything terribly distracting. A little patina to the back that could be cleaned but I and most of my buyers prefer original patina.
But my disclaimer with all my estate pieces - due to age, please note this piece is not in mint condition.
