ABOUT:
Versatile and interesting wide band gypsy stacker with .6 carat center old mine cut. The shank is a domed "gadroon" setting which comes from the French meaning of a "form with wavy edges". So the shoulders swirl and have a sort of angled ribbed design. This has a really wonderful patina. It reads primarily as rose gold, but has a rich buttery glow to the recesses from patina to the gold.
This is a Paris find. The bezel is in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. French hallmarks for 18k and platinum. It has a nice sturdy hand feel.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/2. It weighs a sturdy 7.5g. The ring face is 9.2mm north south tapering to 4mm at the back, so still quite wide and ribbed all the way around. The diamond is about 5.5mm. I would never remove the diamond to get exact measurements but just using estimates by mm, it is around 0.6 carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
A tiny nibble to one girdle edge hidden under the bezel so it is seen only under strong magnification. I see no glaring inclusions even under strong magnification. While it is typical for antique hand cut diamonds to have what can be considered "imperfections" when comparing it to modern machine cut diamond and the Four C's grading scale which came about way later, this antique diamond is actually a very fine one for the period when it comes to clarity. There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings. I also noticed in the video it reflects a bit the green tree outside the window.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
