ABOUT:

Extremely reluctant personal collection release on this gorgeous floral and leaf Giardinetti ring. I acquired it in England. Just can't keep them all : (

The collet set rose cut and table cut diamonds were originally in foiled / closed back settings typical for the period, but at some point during its lifetime, it was expertly opened behind all the stones allowing light to pass through and showing each diamond as they are. This makes it much easier to wear as there is no concern about moisture getting in the setting and causing rust and discoloration. Very tidily done with the back being smooth and very wearable.

About half of the diamonds have a wonderful, warm pale champagne to cognac coloring in varying hues and the others like the center are bright white. One of the diamonds is a table cut - one of the earliest diamond cutting methods.

All these components make this a special ring. I love the mix of cuts and hues all one one piece, which we often find on jewels from this period as the makers of the time would use the stones / materials they had available to them.

The piece is in warm antique 18k gold with the diamonds set in silver as was the customary fabrication for pieces from this period. The ring face is backed in rose gold which was done to prevent the silver from tarnishing and marking the finger. No hallmarks remain as is common for pieces from this period. There is a section at the back of the shank that tests at 14k gold so the ring was sized at one time with the jewelers using 14k at the back.

Antique box in pics is not included but I will send it in an antique box from my collection as it deserves to be housed in something special : ).

MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures a size 7, it weighs 3.6 grams. 14.5mm north to south on the finger with the diamonds spanning 23mm east to west across the hand. The center diamond is 5.5mm by 4mm with a nicely domed top. The others are 2.5 to 3mm each give or take - this is measuring the visible portions of the stones, as they widen out further in the collets. Many old rose cuts in settings like these are often sliced quite thin like discs but some of these have some nice chunkiness and depth to them.

CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. These are typical antique diamonds, very old with some natural inclusions. Most appear as a frosty spot or icy streak here or there. I only see one rust colored spot inclusion in the darkest champagne diamond which is somewhat masked by the hue to the diamond, but may be slightly eye visible to some (I can't see it). There are no cracks or big losses to the any of the stones, just a few nicks, rough, uneven or frosty edges, much of which may have always been that way since these were cut and polished by hand and set into the collets. It has a lovely patina, sparkle and shine. A fine example from the period. Surface wear and light scratches from use and wear to the gold band commensurate with age. But it has held its shape well and has a sturdy feel.

It's so beautiful! Sweet piece from a very special era. But due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item.

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
