Selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:

A deep crimson red cabochon garnet halo ring with rose cut diamond halo. Open backed French Victorian era piece crafted in 18k gold with silver collets holding the rose cut diamonds. Wide shoulders and a sturdy setting with heavy hand feel. With French hallmarks for both gold and silver. At the center is a glowing red cabochon garnet, deep red in color with a glow from within. It does have many abrasions but still a wonderful color to the stone accented by the moody sparkle of the rose cut diamonds.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures a snug size 4 1/2. It weighs a very sturdy 6.3 grams. The ring face is 17mm in diameter.

CONDITION NOTES:

Even in low ambient light the garnet has such a lovely glow and true red color but the surface has many abrasions, nicks and scratches that can catch the light. I priced it lower for this reason and selling as is - I still find the piece quite wonderful. The buyer may wish to discuss with their local jeweler the option of trying to buff the top of the stone while set, I don't typically recommend removing it on these old pieces but I suppose it is possible. Typical antique rose cut with some natural inclusions, frosty spots and rough edges since they were cut by and and slightly warm hues but still a nice sparkle and a great antique look. Some patina and a bit of buildup and residue. Under magnification it looks like strands of hair around the base of the stone leading up to the prongs. It appears to have been intentional in the fabrication of the piece, perhaps as a means to set the stone snugly? I know horse's hair was used as a binding agent in Victorian times but I have not seen a ring wrapped in this way before. It is not visible to the eye while wearing but seen under magnification along with the white residue which may be lotion or soap.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
