Heavy French Antique 1.5 Carat Rose Cut DiAMOND Double Halo Ring 10.5g 18k GOLD Cluster

ABOUT:

Impactful French antique rose cut diamond cluster ring with very sturdy hand feel weighing over 10 grams. The center rose cut is is surrounded by two halos of smaller diamonds for a wonderful sparkle totaling over 1 1/2 carats in diamonds. The piece is crafted in buttery 18k gold with the prongs topped in a white precious metal as was customary for the period. As an added surprise, we just love that scalloped booty detail ; ) - The ring butt or booty as it is called in the trade, is the back inside of the ring face. It is a rarer treat to see it decorated like it is here with scalloped designs around each stone base. The gallery is also lovely with arched openwork details.

This is an antique piece that I acquired in France with French hallmark for 18k. It is Georgian in style but appears too new to be early 1800s looking at the closed back. It is still antique, over 100 years old but I believe it dates to the turn of the century / early 1900s. A very nice quality Georgian revival, but later antique ring. So you get the Georgian look but a much much sturdier hand feel and more wearable condition being 100 years newer.

I love the depth the piece has, with the first halo of diamonds being raised above the ornate gallery, rising slightly to the next halo, which rises up to the center largest diamond, giving the piece a wonderfully domed top. The ring face leads to sturdy and substantial shoulders that sweep down to the triple ribbed shank.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Currently a size 5 1/4 on my ring sizer mandrel.
The largest center diamond is about 5.5mm The next row of seven outlining diamonds are around 2.5mm each. The outside halo of 16 diamonds are each around 2mm give or take. Typical rose cuts with likely flat bottoms, they widen out an unknown amount in the collet settings. I would not remove stones for an exact measurement but just using online estimates it is over 1 1/2 carats total weight in diamonds.
Ring face is 17mm in diameter and stands 9.2mm off the finger.

The Ring weighs a sturdy 10.5g.

CONDITION NOTES:

There is a very slight warmth the foil from age but no dark spots or rust so for a closed back ring, it is quite bright and glittery.
These are typical old rose cut diamonds, cut by hand so they have the beautifully irregular and sometimes imperfect antique look to them. Some natural inclusions, nicks or a tiny frosty / unpolished area here and there to the old cut stones, some from age and wear or possibly just always cut that way. But to the eye they add a nice sparkle and antique look which to me is preferable to the modern, perfectly machine cut diamonds.
These closed back pieces shouldn't be submerged in water but aside from that, this piece is super sturdy with a quality hand feel and prongs in excellent condition making it ready for regular wear..
A fantastic and eye catching piece with that very pretty coloring and sparkling diamonds that are very eye catching.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
