ABOUT:
Beautiful French antique 18k gold dangle earrings with black stones that are in the shape of hexagons with triangular facets all the way around. I am not sure how to figure out the fabrication - if they are onyx, glass or perhaps French Jet? They are cold to the touch. Some of the facets are textured with a matte finish to contrast with the high shine ones.
They are domed like little buttons with flat backs. Rich warm antique gold with rosy highlights from age and patina.
These earrings are called "dormeuse" in French which translates to "sleeper", meant to be dainty and small, comfortable enough to sleep in, used in olden times to keep the ear holes open overnight : ) Of course these days we don't recommend all night 24/7 wear on these antique pieces with intricate 100 year old gold hinges.
French hallmarks for 18k gold with a lovely rosy patina. The hooked ear wires are inserted from the back of the ear and latch into the little loop atop the front of the earring.
Any boxes or props used for staging are not included. Please note the measurements. I always include them in each listing but people tend to miss them - I have to show zoom photos for detail which can make it hard to determine scale.
HALLMARKS:
The earrings are hallmarked with the French antique hallmark for 18k gold that was used in the 1800s.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Measuring 15mm from the top of the wire to the bottom, the black button portion is 7mm wide. Weighs 1.2 grams combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, small nicks. They also may have some build up and some imperfections and other age related wear, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still functioning and wearable. For pieces with more patina, this can always be cleaned up / polished by the buyer but most of my customers prefer original patina so I am selling them as is.
Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
