ABOUT:

This has to be one of the heaviest pieces (for a small size) that I have ever carried. It is only a size 5 and it weighs 18.9 grams!! Quite a nugget this one!

Excellent quality hand feel and such a fun design with the bezel set hexagon cut white sapphire and the thick and domed gadroon setting. The shank is a domed "gadroon" setting which comes from the French meaning of a "form with wavy edges". So the shoulders swirl and have a sort of angled ribbed design. This has a really wonderful patina with a buttery glow and some slightly rosy hues.

Found in France, I'm not sure how old this one is. The gardroon design is quite timeless and has been around for awhile. The piece clearly has some age but I am thinking more retro vintage than antique and I assume the sapphire is synthetic with the unique cut. It is a nice quality white sapphire that has a slight warmth to it that is quite beautiful and I feel enriches the piece.

French hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 5 - and the shank is thick and wide all the way around so I'm not sure what can be done from a sizing perspective. Opinions vary so it's best to talk with your local jeweler who would be doing the work for their opinion on what is possible. It weighs a 18.9 grams. Ring face is 13,5mm north to south, and tapers towards the back bur reminds wide there as well at 8.3mm.

CONDITION NOTES:

There are a few mostly transparent shadow inclusions in one area of one outside edge. And there are two crystal needle inclusions towards the bottom of the stone that can sometimes catch the light. Some nicks and scuffs to the underside stone at the culet and facet edges. This is mostly seen under magnification when looking through the stone. No nicks or scuffs to the top side which has a beautiful sheen and polish. No notable damage to the setting except for a bit of surface wear to the substantial glowing gold work. I paid handsomely for it because it is So. Heavy! and gold is off the charts lately. : )

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
