My Favorite LABRADORITE Antique Glowing Blue Pendant 10k Gold
My Favorite LABRADORITE Antique Glowing Blue Pendant 10k Gold
ABOUT:
Personal Collection Release! Too many pendants, not enough necks! : )
This is probably my favorite stone after old mine cut diamonds and juicy glowing garnets - the labradorite. And they can be quite difficult to find in vintage / antique pieces, despite being used in the Victorian era. I bought this from a long term dealer friend of mine in Europe a few years back. I love it still but I have a labradorite owl that I wear instead.
These stones appear a dark and swirling gray color until you move it to catch the light and project the most magical, vibrant blue glow. Like moonstones, this stone is in the feldspar family. It really reflects out in sunlight but even now in lower ambient light I can get it to glow that wonderful vibrant blue. Note that some of the pics capturing the vibrant glow are just that - a capture, so it is not how it appears 100% of the time. You can refer to the video to hopefully see true to life.
No hallmarks, tests at 10k gold.
Antique boxes / items in displays and group shots in photos are not included, listing is for the one piece. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 5.1.
28mm east to west.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The stone has a great sheen. A spot of solder on the back and the gold strap with the loop appears to be a later addition, perhaps it was a brooch. Some wear to the very old pearls where the layers have worn down. Warm patina to the gold and varying hues from aging to the metal all around. A few spots of verdigris around the prongs from the old alloys used in the 10k.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Beautiful rich patina that has warmed the 18k gold - it has a beautiful glow. Some signs of it being worn from age, where there is a very slight / gradual curve, or a ripple here or there but still very stable. Some surface wear but this is only seen if you study it up close due to the mirrored finish. To the eye and while wearing it as an amazing color and shine, like I said it truly glows and the 18 plus grams of solid 18k gold make it a special piece indeed. Sturdy, wearable and interesting piece in the solid gold version. There are no dark or colored spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings. Impactful worn alone but also layers well with other pieces.
My disclaimer with all my pieces - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
