ABOUT:

Personal collection release - Wonderful French regional antique ring in 18k rose gold, decorated with a pansy highlighted with black, blue, green, red and white enamel. Faceted details to the gold at each shoulder as well. Beautiful antique rosy gold patina. This Paris find is a personal favorite of mine as I love floral and especially pansy jewelry.

Regional, or folk jewelry, is defined by a particular style confined to a particular region. This style of ring was used in the Brittany or Charente region of France in the 1800s as a traditional engagement ring. May have also been a mourning piece or just a romantic token with the pansy design. The pansy flower was used in Victorian times as a symbol of remembrance. The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, "thought". It universally meant "think of me," so it would also serve as a very thoughtful or romantic gift.

Antique box is not included.

French hallmarks used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued in early 1900s.

Please note the measurements as it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 10 3/4, Shank is 7mm north south at the face. Its weight 3.2 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Some nicks and one spot of loss to the enamel down to the gold in the black background. Shank is a bit blunt on the edge from the thin gold but I would think it could still be sized at the back (best to check with the person who would be doing the work). Lovely patina.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
