ABOUT:

Wonderful and uncommon table cut diamond nine stone band with center fancy brownish yellow table cut diamond flanked by colorless table cuts in silver collet settings on each side. This ever popular Georgian era ring face has had some alterations to make it so unique, sturdy and very wearable today. While the colorless table cuts are antique, original to the ring face and from the 1700s Georgian period, the center stone was either reset or is an upgraded replacement as evidenced inside the ring face by the solder marks and different patina to the gold. This is not visible while wearing but gives us some clues that an alteration was done.

The center stone has a fabulous deep brownish orangish yellow color and exceptional clarity. With no damage, it has very crisp facets and an uncommon cut with a large square culet and underside facets extending out from each corner of the culet. The colorless table cuts show signs of their age but still give us that wonderful moody twinkle for these stones that were cut before electricity to be viewed by fireside and candlelight.

The shank and underside of the settings are in 18k rose gold, with the collets in silver as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

There is a symbol hallmark on one shoulder of the shank exterior that I couldn't to decipher, and a newer etched hallmark for 18k gold inside the ring shoulder. With the later hallmark inside, I believe it was re-marked when the work on the center stone was done. It is also possible the antique ring face was re-shanked but the patina to the gold, from the shank to the underside of the diamond settings matches and does not show signs of repair so there is no glaring evidence of it being re-shanked. I wish I knew all the stories the piece could tell but this one is quite special and uncommon.

These table cut diamonds are one of the earlier methods of diamond cutting and are quite collectible. The piece has a very unique coloring and these Georgian era stackable bands, which we typically find with rose cuts, are always sought after.

This one you should avoid getting it wet with the closed / foiled back.

Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/2. The ring face is 7mm north south and stands 4mm off the finger. The shank is 2mm wide at the back. The largest center table cut diamond is about 5.5mm square and the smaller diamonds are 3mm each give or take. These measurements are of the visible portions of the stones, as depth and exact width is unknown as they are surrounded by the silver collets. It weighs 2.9 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Please see notes above. The smaller table cuts have more signs of their age, with some nicks, frosty spots and natural inclusions. One of the end stones has some shards of loss to one corner leaving a frosty uneven finish there. It fills the collet well so it is not glaring but can be seen if you are studying the piece for flaws. Another has a frosty edge very close to the girdle but this is seen with magnification only.

There is some discoloration to the foil back so the colorless diamonds read warm to gray in color. But part of this is that table cuts can appear darker to the eye since they do not have facets like brilliant cuts. One has some spotting to the foil back from age. There are some dings to the back inside the ring face from age which is not visible while wearing.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still wearable.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
