ABOUT:
Special piece - This is a favorite of mine from my recent inventory trip to France. I've enjoyed wearing her but it's time to share her : /
Substantial, unique, all original and wonderful mid Georgian Rococo era ring with center garnet surrounded by a mix of chunky old cut diamonds in a foiled back setting.

Many of the diamonds are rose cuts, but one is a unique point cut / rose cut combo that crops out to one side of the garnet. One of the others is a cross between an old mine and a table cut with large rectangular open culet and large table. As was customary for the time, the jewelers often used mixes of stones depending on what was available to them - all of these having been hand cut using the experts' personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each stone.

Leading to the setting, we have wonderful linear and leaf (?) designs extending from the sides of the shank up to surround the ring face. Some faint blue enamel remains in the recesses, which adds a lovely highlight when it catches the light. A scarce and fine example of Rococo Era piece.

Sturdy hand feel with a moody vibe from the crimson garnet which is set east to west and its halo of warm, chunky old cut diamonds. Jewels of this period were meant to sparkle in the low light of candlelight and fireside dinners. Such a romantic piece, looks like something you'd see royalty wearing in a period piece movie. This is one of my oldest pieces along with my table cuts : )

No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm. Antique box is not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 6 1/4 weighing a sturdy 6.7 grams. Garnet is about 5.5 by 4mm. Each rose cut is around 3mm give or take. Exact depth is unknown as I would not remove them, but the tall point cut for example is over 2mm. Just using online estimates it seems to be at least 2/3 of a carat total weight in antique diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. There is some discoloration to the foil back so the diamonds read a dark gray to cognac to champagne in color but with the large, chunky cuts, have a really nice sparkle. There is a nick to the garnet and a bit of build up around the stones from the last 260 plus years. Typical antique diamonds with some faint natural inclusions not seen by the eye but no chips or cracks, which is surprising considering age. Just a tiny nick to the pointed cut seen only under magnification. Beautiful color and sturdy design to this beautiful sparkly piece. Only faint remnants of the blue enamel remain. This one needs a bit gentler wear, as you should avoid getting it wet with the foiled back. Due to extreme age - please note this is not a mint condition item.

Thanks so much for looking at my items! I'd be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop!
