ABOUT:
A striking pendant with pin back added, set with 25 rose cut diamonds in foil backed settings totaling over a carat in antique diamonds. This figural piece takes the shape of a Maltese cross. Used for various purposes throughout history and is seen as a symbol of protection. Firefighters use a form of it in their badge of courage.

Found in Paris, France, the piece is crafted in silver with a 14k gold back as is customary for the period to have gold backing so that tarnish does not reach the skin. The pin back and loop were added later and are both in 18k gold. The catch is stamped with hallmarks for 14k and 18k gold. I wonder what the piece was in its original fabrication, perhaps a component of a larger piece.

Any props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos..

MEASUREMENTS:
26x24mm
Weight: 6g.
Center diamond is 5.5mm. The others are 2 to 3mm with the smallest ones around the center a little over 1mm.

The piece is over a carat total weight in diamonds. Like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. Rose cut diamonds are typically quite spready. So it is difficult to speculate on carat weight when we can’t determine depth without removing them from the setting, which I would never do. But if you were to compare the diameters to brilliant cut diamonds, this piece has the appearance of over 1.8 carat. The center stone, facing up as a .65 carat stone.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Note that as a pendant, it doesn't sit perfectly flat on the decollette right now. I got it to hold for a pic but when wearing it can teeter some due to the pin back. This could easily be nipped off in moments by your local jeweler , but I decided to sell it as is in case someone liked it as a brooch as it does double duty now.

Typical antique rose cuts with age to the foil back giving them warm to gray hues. It has a great antique look. Is it just me or does the bottom of the cross list to the left a bit? Typical antique rose cuts with natural inclusions and some frosty spots. Also some darker spots either inclusions or again age to the closed back.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
