ABOUT:
Three stone gypsy with center vibrant fuchsia pink ruby flanked by an old mine cut diamond on each side. The stones are small and the ruby may be synthetic, a popular choice for the period. Dates to the late 1800s to very early 1900s.
Timeless design, this one may have even been a man's ring as rubies were favored by men some generations ago (my great grandpa had one). These settings seem to go on and on in popularity.
One of the little old mine cuts has Peruzzi tendencies in the old cut square shape, but with the long triangular scissor type cuts at the corners from when they first started polishing those corner facet edges.
Eye catching size and form that adds a fun shape and color to a ring stack.
No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm. This one does have evidence of a sizing to the back.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale.
Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 8 1/2 - questions about sizing are best asked to your local jeweler who would be doing the work. Usually they say within 2 sizes is a good guide but opinions vary when it comes to modern jewelers comfort level working on antiques. Sometimes a quick call and texted / emailed photo can be helpful.
Ring face is 7.2mm north to south.
The piece weighs a sturdy 5.3g. The stones are 3.5mm and 32.5mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
A few nicks to the center ruby. No damage or heavy inclusions to the diamonds, the square one reads a bit warm under magnification.
There are no dark (or green or colored) spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including trees outside the window : ).
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
